Note
Dave Winer recently wrote The web of Markdown proposing a new simpler web. I quickly realized that much of this was already present with sites like mine that serve markdown for LLMs.
It was only a quick claude coding session to spin up Markdown Browser which is a web proxy that allows us to browse the Web of Markdown.
I'm really happy with how quickly this came together and how many sites I was able to find in Dave's blogroll that already support this.
Indeed it kind of already exists Implemented this for my indiekit blog but only for Articles post type rmendes.net/llms.txt
Also added an AI transparency JSON-LD custom property that declare if AI was used per post
Also integrated with my Plume Micropub Browser extension
Thanks for picking up the ball here Andrew. I love the look, but I want it to run without Chrome. And I want all the affordances -- Bookmarks, History, connection to a search engine (but only if they can produce Markdown pages). I want to start the migration away from Chrome. A lot of people love this idea, I've been hearing from them. And then we're going to need Markdown-only blogging software, and there's already a good start there with all the Tools for Thought products that work in Markdown.
Thanks Dave! Right now this is just a web app so you can eliminate Chrome by using Firefox or Safari. :-)
This bootstrap can be used on any desktop or a phone right now. Creating a native app next would be a fun project but this gives people a way to browse the web of markdown and it's already shown me a bunch of places where my markdown wasn't up to par.
THIS is how i want to read the web -and publish to it. Q: is there a simple way to configure WordPress to output Markdown versions of any / all pages on request, i wonder?
Yes, I'm using the Mescio for Agents plugin. It leaves something to be desired, but overall not too bad.
I would *so* go for this.
One can in theory do this on their own site with a rewrite rule that rewrites '/doc.md' to a php or python cgi script '/mdrender.php?src=doc.md' that renders the markdown as HTML.
Hi Andrew, I posted a native rendering of your Markdown blog on X at https://x.com/jy/status/2110438661900714103
Thanks for making me aware of this idea! As a first step I made all my web pages emit markdown and it works in your browser beautifully.
Awesome!
